Three phases of Dry Sorting

TDS includes three main systems that is the feeding system, identification system and execution system.

  • The Feeding system includes: vibrating screen, conveyor belt;
  • The Identification System includes X-ray source, Detector, Calculation system;
  • The Sorting execution system contains: Aury Africa’s dry sorting system can handle 360t/h of large size coal or 230t/h of small size coal.

Working Process

The raw coal is fed on the belt, then scanned by X-ray sensor. Lump coal or rejects were separated, by compressed air controlled by control system. TDS system is high technology equipment used for a lump coal and reject sorting. TDS uses a horizontal conveyor to spread material on it, use X-Ray to identify these material, and use nozzle array to eject high pressure air flow to do execution. Identification and execution are two core technology of Aury Africa.

Dry Sorting Technology

The technology used in our dry sorting machines incorporate X-ray transmission. This kind of technology is widely used in the medical field, such as bone density measurement.

And it’s also used in security screening machine in public areas, such as the airport, train station. X-ray dry sorter working principle is totally different from the traditional beneficiation equipment, because it will scan each individual object on the conveyor, and the system can identify what component inside it.

For example, look at this PARTICLE, it might be treated as a reject by conventional dense medium separating machine, because its overall average density is like a reject.  In fact, the main component of this object is coal! With X-ray detection, the system knows the material composition, and you can decide whether to keep it as a coal or discard it, because there is some reject inside it when the next time TDS encounter this kind object!

TDS can be applied in the following four typical scenarios.

Scenario 1

In thermal coal mine, TDS can treat coal size of 300mm-25mm, and the lump coal from TDS can be sold directly.

Scenario 2

In coking coal mine, TDS can be used as a pre-concentration equipment (pre-discard rejects)to discard rejects before transport to coal preparation plant.

Scenario 3

Undermine pre-discard reject and back-filling.

Scenario 4

Especially in arid area and lignite sorting.

Dry Sorting Accuracy

TDS execution system uses the latest technology that is widely implemented in the optical sorter industry. Optical sorter have been successfully used in bulk food processing and environmental protection industry. They separate items by detecting the colors of things that pass before them, and using mechanical or pneumatic ejection devices to divert items whose colors do not within the acceptable range.
